Genres

Okay so I still don't have a fully developed idea for my film opening, but I think it would be smart to research about a couple of genres that I'm interested in. I've always loved horror movies and dark comedies so I'm definitely gonna consider those genres.

Comedy

Comedy films have been around for a very long time and it is one of the oldest genres. It was easy to make comedy films when the film industry was new because sound wasn't really necessary, people could just make exaggerated movements and it would be considered comedy; this is why most silent films were comedies. Comedy can expand to many target audiences due to the different categories of comedy; a common category for adults is dark comedy, which is a comedy that makes light of a tragic or heavy subject matter. Nowadays, comedy films mostly rely on physical comedy or just plain old jokes. One of the most well known comedy films, Step Brothers, has made over $100 million and it's known to be a "cult classic" film, due to how popular it has become. Comedy films tend to gross a lot of money at the box office

Horror

The horror genre is a type of genre that relies on scaring the audience and it tries to get a strong reaction out of viewers. The horror genre is one of the most oldest and basic film genres, many horror films were produced from 1910 to 1920. One of the oldest horror films is Frankenstein, a monster who is brought to life by a "mad" scientist; it's one of the most well known horror films. A more recent horror film that is extremely popular and has a cult following is a film called Scream, this film is considered to be one of the most iconic horror films ever made and it is the highest-grossing slasher film in the United States. Horror films are considered to be one of the best films to make because they tend to make a lot of cash and they're pretty inexpensive to make.
